In the first of our new Fallen Soldiers feature we salute the legend that is DJ Scott LaRock (3/2/1962 – 8/27/87). Here’s some audio from an old Dave Pearce Radio London show reporting the news of Scott’s untimely passing:
Scott (pictured) calling a girl before the advent of internet dating. We imagine this would have been his Facebook photo would he still have been with us today. So time for a caption competition. What’s Scott saying on the telephone? Answers by way of comments please, the best one wins a Fat Lace T Shirt.
Here’s Boogie Down Productions ‘Super Hoe’, an ode to Scott’s love affair with prophylactics. We think KRS, a serial monogamist, lived his own fantasies through the promiscuous DJ.
…and here’s KRS telling you all to Stop The Violence. This includes harming pets, killings wasps, threatening a child with the naughty step and giving someone a chinese burn.
Peace to Bobby Corridor for the Dave Pearce link

Come on, that’s too easy:
“Yo, Kris. I really knocked the boots on those two big-butt females last night.”
Kris responds, “Yeeeeeeeessss” then Scott says:
“Yeah, man. I’m on my way down to Latin Quarter to find two more freaks…”

I remember hearing the news on that show, damn, that was crazy coz Criminal Minded was one of the first ‘proper’ Hip Hop Lp’s I bought back in the day and I had a BDP pic from Echoes mag up on the wall at the time. I was one shocked 14 year old when I heard that he got killed.

“Yo Kris! I just had a vision of the future: you’re going to be appearing on this album in a few years (http://www.amazon.com/Gift-Game-Crazy-Town/dp/B0000296JD), so hang on to that REM money!”

Hes not actually on a real phone, but he’s right in the middle of djing at a party in the south, south Bronx – everyone remembers the ‘handset’ method of monitoring the other turntable instead of headphones dont they? well, shortly after this pic was taken the handset method blew the f#ck up and to this very day, dj’s in some of Doncaster & Rotherham’s top nightspots are still using these in respect to big Scott.

“yo marley, you know what kris is like, he’s always so quick to get on the defensive, when Shan said ‘it started out in Queensbridge’ he thought he meant ‘Hip Hop’ started out in Queens. I tried to tell him Shan wasn’t sayin that, but you know what Kris is like, man. Before I knew it he’d been in the studio, recorded the diss and got B-Boy to press it up on wax. I personally don’t think you suck on the wheels of steel, Marley Marl scratch is one of my all time fave’s and that NYC Cutter 12″ was the bog’s bollocks. Anyway, your welcome down this neck of the woods anytime, just holla at ya boy and we’ll go for a pint”
