Ah, the signwriter’s art. As the sub-editor buried deep down in any of you will know, they be getting signs wrong on the regular. Inappropriate apostrophes, ignoring the possessive apostrophe. Just not knowing what in fuck an apostrophe is, generally. And then there’s misspelling. Despite his pride in his thriving chicken franchise, Pudgee the Phat Bastard isn’t unaware that his name has been spelled as ‘Pudgie’. It’s the latest kick in the teeth for Pudgee, who got out of rap after scurrilous rumours had him pegged as the ‘gay rapper’. Unfortunately for him, wrong sign aside, he’s now known as the ‘gay chicken seller’. When we reached him for comment, he said he was selling up and opening up under another name. He’s not sure which one yet, but leading contenders are ‘Chook D’s fry-place’, ‘Chickademus and Friers’ and ‘Gay Rapper Deep Fried Chicken’.
Lenny the sign writer was available for comment and said: “How does he expect me to spell ‘Pudgee’ right when he can’t spell ‘fat’ correctly. That’s word to Webster’s, the Oxford English Dictionary and Lynne Truss!”
