After Sparky D put Roxanne Shante on blast (see yesterday) with ‘Sparky’s Turn’, the two teamed up for the faux-battle of ‘Round 1′ on Spin Records. This kicks off with ‘Roxanne’s Revenge’ and ‘Sparky’s Turn’, and both girls then get their own solo tracks – ‘Roxanne’s Profile’ and ‘Sparky’s Profile’ to introduce themselves. Both smack of being a bit rushed, they’re pure drum machine with vocals. Nice if you like it raw, but pretty lacklustre as Marley Marl productions go. When they finally clash – on ‘Round 1′ – you can tell from the bass it’s a Spyder D production, and they get some good jabs in at each other. However, they’ve both done better work, which means this mini LP is best sought out for its fantastic cover. There’s more hard-faced boxing posing on the back. Don’t fancy yours much…
