Obscure Roxanne battle records fortnight part 4

January 16th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Damn, but we wish people would stop writing on our rekkids. More electro than most of the Roxanne replies, this likeable 12″ is available on standard black and, much more preferable, red vinyl. Male and female rap vocals collide with an overdose of vocoder, and you’ll be sorely tempted to do the Roxanne by the end of it. Rocx released a bunch of stuff on Slice, but we’re not above suspecting him of being the Doctor J. R. Kool who later released the ‘Complete Story of Roxanne’ covers LP (coming soon) on Compleat, especially as that LP and this LP are both produced by one Frank Virtue. Due to overzealous record collecting, we’ve got 3 copies of this, and one of them is a free prize for whoever guesses what our next exhaustive and exhausting Roxanne entry is…

it’s gotta be dr freshh ‘roxanne’s dotor’, but now I’ve said it it’ll prob something else like ‘roxanne’s a man’ (dunno who did that), or it going right up to ‘have a nice a day’ to ‘big mamma’? ‘Payback/freestyle live’ is my fave.

I know I should have gone with a more obscure one next. Oh well, let me know your address – drewhuge@gmail.com, and you get a copy in the post. But no, we’re not going beyond ‘85 with these joints, more or less.

Great to re-live the Roxanne Saga …..reminds me of listening to Mike Allen.

“Roxanne’s a man” was by Ralf Rolle – I don’t even remember what that one sounded like anymore…..

Drew, if the next is your last installment, then I’ll take a guess at your last being “Zelee Featuring Osé – No More Roxanne”…..

If you look closely at the pie on the Slice Records labels, you’ll see that it’s a fanny in the filling. Straight up. On later releases they had to obscure it. Fact, yo.
Christ I’m scaring myself here – that spod attack almost popped my spine out.
