Obscure Roxanne battle records fortnight part 7

January 21st, 2008 · 2 Comments

“Her chest is very hairy, her face is very scary…”

Ralph Rolle has been around for a minute. It’s a long way from being a bit-part player in the Roxanne wars to playing drums on D’Angelo’s ‘Higher’ (from ‘Brown Sugar’). Along the way he had a track on ‘Beat Street Volume 2′ and worked on a Brand Nubian album. It’s the epitome of a bit part musical career, but then the great history is always in the footnotes. And here, he even employs Roxanne’s grandmother at the end. If you’re shopping for something on Street Wise it’s probably going to be Nairobi’s ‘Funky Soul Makossa’, but if you can get this for a couple of notes, add it to the Roxanne pile…

Real Rox is on myspace, she’s definitely not a man, but she’s around 50-ish with grown up daughters. I thought Rox was pretty hot back in the day, she looked OK from behind in that karate outfit when I accidentally got lost at the back of the stage on the way back from the lav during her performance at fresh 86.
