Classic Skits #2

KMD 2 KMD 1

We talk about the old school but even 1991 seems so long ago now. The question is, did hip-hop ever really get any better than this? Admittedly De La forged the blueprint for skit driven albums but K.M.D. were a perfect case of imitation is the best form of flattery, whereas other groups would have been typecast simply as biters. It’s testament to the longevity of one Daniel Dumile, now known as M.F. Doom among other guises, the supervision of Dante Ross and the executive guidance of Serch et al, (well, he did bring us Nas). So here are all the Mr. Hood segments in one consecutive chunk of audio. If anyone can tell us exactly where K.M.D. got the Mr. Hood audio from we’ll poke fun at you for being a know-it-all but secretly we’ll be impressed.

Mr Hood the audio tape, just what the world has been waiting for.

The Mr. Hood samples are from a German (I think) “learn english” record if I remember correctly. I knew someone who had it. I can find out if it means extra secret-impressedness?

The “Little Sambo” samples are from a Kids 7″/picture book that pussies out by depicting a little WHITE sambo!!!???!!!

The stuff about Goya nectars is the best shit in the world.

Fact: Mr. Hood is the only Hiphop album to ever feature ANY quality voice acting.

The bit in the first track where DOOM says “Considering his aim, I warned he could hurt others with his game, Miss Christman warned the same” is the greatest bit of rhyme writing ever. Maybe. If DOOM could get back to that level or even the “Seven whole days and night and not a word from you, I was worried, I thought I woulda hear from you” level then he’d be the best out.

    Poke away…

the tape of Mr Hood hardly ever left my car when it came out, rotated only with the 3rd Bass LP’s and Mama Said Knock You Out.

Genius, even more so when you hear them in one huge chunk like this.

    Mr Hood’s skits > 3 Feet High’s skits (De La’s interludes > De La’s skits).
