Pointless Sh*t #1: New rap beef

January 30th, 2009 · 6 Comments

To say this 50 Cent vs. Rick Ross beef is pointless is the understatement of all understatements. Rick is such an obvious target after he was outed as Jake. The label PR told us categorically that 50 didn’t start this beef. 50 hasn’t dropped anything close to a good album since his phenomenal debut on Shady/Aftermath so he still needs to get his own game tight. He ethered Ja Rule’s career but Ja was on top of his game so that was fun to watch. Taking shots at Fat Joe or Rick when they’ve already become D list rappers by they’re own doing is a pointless waste of time. We’ll ignore the trumped up Kanye saga. And as for DJ ‘We The Best’ Khaled, you’re not the best and saying it all the time won’t make it come true. Having a pop at him gives him even more opportunity to say he’s the best like some kind of DJ tourettes affliction.

If the 50 / Ricky beef wasn’t bad enough, then we get Rhymefest and Charles Hamilton going at it. Ye’s ghostwriter versus a no name up and comer with zero chance of a successful career (we’re prepared to swallow our words if that prophecy is proved wrong as anything can happen these days). Fest got skills but dude, have a hit under your belt before you put yourself on a pedestal. ‘Jesus Walks’ doesn’t count, your boy got all the dap for that. So we categorically speak on behalf of hip-hop fans across the globe, stop the pointless beef. As fans we demand good albums, period. Unles you can offer that, don’t abuse your artistic license.

So in our usual Fat Lace steez how do we tie all this pointless bull crap into some even more pointless rap nostalgia? Well on the last line of Fest’s comeback he threaten’s to ‘PM Dawn’ Charles. We love the verb to ‘PM Dawn’. It maybe some of Fest’s finest work to date and certainly an addtion for the 2009 edition of the Oxford Ebonics Dictionary. Our only problem is that we think PM Dawn got a unduly bad rep. This record under the name of Prince B, Dawn’s first incarnation, is better than anything Fest, Charles or KRS have ever released. Yes, even better than ‘13 And Good’. If you haven’t got a copy, be quick, we’re sure there are few floating around on eBay. PM Dawn, we salute you.

I can’t stand Rhymefest, I woulda kept my copy of ‘Brand New’ if he wasn’t on it. Haven’t even heard Charles Hamilton and really don’t want to. I’d rather listen to Christine Hamilton.

ps. I remember that Prince B record, that rapping hurts my ears. Truly aweful. But I’d take it over Rhymefest anyday.

Actually I shoulda said I’d have kept my copy of Brand new if him and Kanye weren’t rapping on it, can’t stand Kanyeezy’s voice, it’s nearly as annoying as Monie Love’s is on that clip.
