Highly Inaccurate Record Titles No. 1

K-Cloud and The Crew and MC Valentine – We’re Here To Stay

Oh, you are, are you? Perhaps your wished for longevity was somewhat scuppered by the unwieldy name you chose for your crew. K-Cloud and The Crew? Fine. K-Cloud and MC Valentine? Perfect. But K-Cloud and The Crew and MC Valentine? Fuck us, but that’s a mouthful. When choosing a group name, try putting it into a typical conversation to see if it works. For example: “Oy, mate, did you see Jools Holland the other night? Yeah, he had Nick Cave on. Oh, and K-Cloud and The Crew and MC Valentine. Blinding. What? No, it’s one group, not three.” See, doesn’t work.

Of course, their lack of staying power could be attributed to the fact that they spent longer on coordinating their outfits than on recording the album. Or even longer on writing the exhaustive shout-outs on the back. Long shout-outs are a great source of rap names, as any scholar of the back of an LP will know. As well as shouting out every popular rap group in the world at the time of release, they also say ‘what up’ to Uncle Beef, Black John, Long Head Sucka and Marvin Saucer. With friends like that…

Your nominations for Highly Inaccurate Record Titles are more than welcome…

Slim Thug’s ‘Already Platinum’ will never be beaten for irony.

Regardless of their longevity that cover above is amazing

Fat Lace favourites like We Could Get Used To This and Counting Endless Bank definately count here since both groups were more than likely broke at the time and ended up back on welfare or in prison a year or two after their releases.

Not a record title but Craig Mack’s You won’t be around next year.. line aimed at his competitors in ‘94 was highly inappropriate given what happened to his career.
