Vocal doppelgangers – The Jacka Vs. Cormega

When our man Rob Breezy put us on to The Jacka, our first response was ‘Jesus, he sounds like a Bay Area Cormega’. Well, it turns out they were already on to that, as the man from the Mob Figaz and the man from Queens had been bonding on Collabos since 2001. There’s a great hook-up on the new album, ‘Tear Gas’, which prompted us to up our finest cross-coast combos between the pair. 2002’s ‘Life’ is particularly interesting, as the hook is a reworking of lyrics from ‘One Armed Scissor’ by At The Drive In. Jacka is truly throwing a curveball there.’Tear Gas’ might not be as stellar as ‘The Jack Artist’, but we’ll still have it on constant rotation over the summer. And if you haters aren’t convinced by The Jacka, we’ve also upped another of his finest moments – ‘Lookin’ At It’ – by way of convincing your reticent asses…

The Jacka ft. Cormega – ‘Storm’ (from ‘Tear Gas’)

The Jacka ft. Cormega & The Hoodfellaz – ‘Life’ (from ‘The Jacka of the Mob Figaz’)

The Jacka ft. Cormega & Rydah J. Klyde – ‘I’m Thru’ (ditto)

The Jacka ft. Cormega & Rydah J. Klyde – ‘Barney (Remix)’ (from ‘The Jack Artist’)

The Jacka ft. Keak Da Sneak & Yukmouth – ‘Lookin’ At It’ (ditto)

My Mob Figaz obsession was born when i first heard the Barney remix on Cormega’s Legal Hustle compilation.

That alerted me to Jacka and then The Jack Artist dropped about 6 months or so later and i’ve never looked back since.
