He stole the show alongside Ms. Keys in Smokin’ Aces and stood his ground in American Gangster. We’re honestly are not checking for his music any more but his catalogue speaks for itself. Onwards and upwards for Lonnie Lynn, you’re doin’ the Native Tongues generation proud.

We’re seeing a trend here, accomplished actors yearning to be rappers but falling flat on their botoxed faces. We’re not hating though. We’d take the lure of Hollywood cream over the pittance most rappers see any day so we can’t be mad that they don’t follow through, unlike Joaquin who can afford to, even if it is done badly. So here we see Michael Rapper Poor spit on The High & Mighty’s ‘Highlight Zone’ (2003) album. Perhaps Mighty Mi can enlighten us as to how they got dude up in the Motherf*ckin’ Spot on Lex to lay down his ode to 50’s ‘How To Rob’. Funnily enough the first actor he threatens is, we’re assuming, Adrian Brody who we know is a huge fan of hip-hop but we’re unsure if he’s actually rapped. If anyone has intelligence on that matter we’d like to know.

Canadian funny guy Tom Green is most famous for knowing what Drew Barrymore’s front bum looks like, oh and being very funny. But before all that he rapped. Yes, it’s the second instalment of….Actors Who Rap, who knew? Tom’s group, a clever play on words, released their debut wax in 1992. Not a million miles away in Queens, New York rappers Po and Monch had a similar group name and were cooking up a storm with the late great Paul C. Come to think of it Organized Rhyme should have called themselves Organized Konfusion and vice versa. We think the name change would have been more apt. The latter were at least organized enough to make a career out of rhyming where as Tom ditched his rapping career after ‘Check The O.R.’ failed to even go wood in the hood. And ‘wood’ in Canada equals 100 copies. In all seriousness we think it was a pretty good effort, check the skills “I got a ride and you’re just a pedestrian, I grab a horse and jump like equestrian, I talk smooth like Lando Calrissian”. At least Tom got this out of his system in the 90’s, god bless Joaquim but he’s obviously having a personal crisis, albeit with good taste in 90’s hip-hop.

And if you don’t believe us, it’s all to see on Tom’s Wiki page.

So Joaquin Phoenix quits acting, starts rapping and has a penchant for Trends Of Culture. We watched the interview and thought the Wu tang influence was predictable and let’s face it, even the Queen Of Britain knows Rakim is a GOD MC but then he dropped the Trends reference. He quite rightly refers to them as a “trio from Harlem that a lot of people slept on”. We couldn’t agree more. Joaquin, we praise you O Gladiatorial one.

This now begs the question, which other actors rap or have rapped? Over the coming days Fat Lace will investigate. Well we already know the answers and we’ll be dropping some bombs on you, so hold tight.

Now for some of that classic Harlem flavour…
